Redbud Fine Arts opened in May 1999 and is located in the Houston Heights at 303 E 11th Street, at the corner of East 11th and Cortlandt Street, adjacent to Texas Collaborative Fine Arts Printmaking, G Gallery and the Sharon Kopriva Studio. The gallery is typically open from noon to 5 PM on Wednesdays thru Sundays, visitors can view exhibitions at any time through the store front windows without entering the gallery or call 713.854-4246 to arrange an appointment. The goal of the space is to show fine art on a global basis and promote the rich culture of Texas. Gratis Art collection consulting and appraisal is also a service provided by the gallery. Artists have ranged from masters to first timers. We show all media; including prints, sculpture, ceramics, photos, drawings, glass, paintings, and installations on a local, national and international basis. The openings are typically well attended on First Saturday nights from 6 to 9 and the artist is often in attendance when possible (and still living.) Most people arrive on opening nights expecting to enjoy the art, meet with friends and to graze on cookies, another hallmark of Redbud openings. The gallery has shown metal folk art by 84 yr. Dallas artist Gladys Gostin, a rare 1876 History Timeline of the world, master prints by German expressionists, assemblage art by George Herms , and an installation by nationally famous and published "The Art Guys," . In 2001, the controversial national show Sextablos caused an uproar from a racial, vice and sacrilegious standpoint. Well known artists such as Lucas Johnson, Felicien Rops, Angelbert Metoyer, Al Souza, Bill Komodore, & many others have had over 150 solo showings in the last decade. The Gallery specializes in works on paper by old and modern masters from Durer, Rembrandt, to Ruscha, Man Ray , Rauschenberg and numerous German Expressionists. We are the Houston representatives of the Gujarati born artist , Amita Bhatt, who has a selection of new drawing and painting works available as shown on this website. In addition, we promote Texas art by organizing group exchange shows in Germany, China, Peru, Cuba, Mexico, and France in addition to arranging national fund raisers for disaster work as in 9-11 and hurricane Katrina relief for the American Red Cross. Redbud also provides artists with an opportunity to work in Hilmsen, an artist run residency located near Salzwedel , Germany and operated by Hans Molzberger. We are helping artists, providing reasonable priced art for all collectors, and paying our artists in a very timely manner.
